Oblt.Waak 7/KG76 Identity required.

Hi im trying identify an Oblt.Waak flying with 7/KG76 from the end of 1941 to at least 23.7.42.

Ive checked the excellent Luftwaffe Officer Careers without success.
Could anybody help with his first name or subsequent fate if known.
Best regs,
Steve.

Not a member of post-war KG 76 Association and no PERS 6 file. There was an Ofw Oskar Waak (B) with Stab III and then 9./KG 76 in 1940 so suggest this could be him; he was wounded/injured twice in 1940

Hi Chris great to hear from you, hope your well.
Thanks for the suggestion for Oskar Waak, could well be him as the information i have suggests he was a member of
III/KG76 Gruppe Schwarm from April 1942 until at least 22.7 .42 when the Flugbuch im working on ends!
Kindest regs,
Steve.
Ps. Only doubt i have was he promoted to Oblt??

Steve: Ofw were regularly promoted to Oblt during wartime-Hans-Walter Wolff of 6./KG 2 and Kurt Herrmann of 1./NJG2 are good examples

Hi Chris, yes i am aware of this step in promotion.
Just annoying that i cant find anymore on Oskar Waaks susequent career. Although clearly an Oberleutnant at this time he doesnt appear in the Luftwaffe Career Officer listings?
Best regs,
Steve.

Wartime commissioning 80 plus years ago, some things are bound to have gone missing. The strong evidence in support is Gruppe, Geschwader, timescale and the unusual surname in my opinion

Hi Chris thx for your message.
I now have reason to believe the man im seeking is not Waak but Maak! I have found in the losses an Oblt. Gerhard Maak Staffel Kapitan of 7/KG76 killed in action 24/25.9.42
in Ju.88A-4 F1+HR W.Nr.144010.
This is the right unit and timeframe!
Best regs,
Steve.
