NASM Bf 109 G-6

Hi guys

I hope that all of you are well. It seems as if the National Air and Space Museum has completed the restoration and repainting of their Bf 109 G-6 "Yellow 4" (W.Nr. 160 756) which is now depicted in the scheme that it was originally in when Unteroffizier René Darbois of 3./JG 4 defected with it to Santa Maria Capua Vetere on July 25, 1944. However, not all are pleased with the results, most making the point that the camouflage colors, which most likely were field-applied Italian ones, are correct but the execution is faulty. I am the least qualified person to speak on this but it does appear that the camouflage is too hard-edged as compared to what one sees in the photographs and film that is known. What are your thoughts on this?

Horrido!

Leo

I'd say it was a little too hard-edged but not drastically so. The intrusion of the camouflage over the fuselage crosses definitely looks more 'solid' than in the photos, though.

Trying to recreate a paint scheme 80 years later relying upon upon black and white photos seems like a tall order.
