Soviet PO-2 planes - RAF Jiwani - 1943
Along with the British, the Soviets were engaged in anti-locust flight operations in southern Iran during 1943.
The Soviet detachment at RAF Jiwani, on the now Pakistan-Iran border, had a small dozen PO-2 biplanes. See e.g. https://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ww2peo...a6068252.shtml. References also in official documents available in the Qatar Digital Library (qdl.qa). If anyone has come across a picture of the PO-2s involved or has a lead, then happy to hear so. Thanks & regards, Leendert |

Iran had a famine in the WW II period.
WW2tv has a youtube presentation "British Anti-Locust Campaign in the Arabian Peninsula 1942-1945. It seems there was a big problem with locusts during the WW II years in this area. |

Yes, I was aware of the bigger picture and background. It's a somewhat overlooked history in 'the West'.
I gathered that the RAF has sent Wellingtons with food supplies to parts of the Hadhramout as well for famine relief. Regards, Leendert |

I believe I have read where the Wellington did fly food supplies for famine relief in the Middle east some where.
