F/LT WILLIAM ‘BILL’ WILLIAMS
13th May 1921 - 24th April 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce Bill’s passing this week, the last known living PR veteran. Our sincere condolences to his family.
Bill, originally from London, learned to fly in Canada after joining up and upon return to the UK he was posted to 681 Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron in Burma through until the end of the war. He predominantly flew PR Spitfires and got significant time on the PR.IV ferrying one from Benson via Cornwall and Gibraltar to Cairo. Post war he ran the family pub for a short while before becoming an architect and town planner.
Bill passed away peacefully in his sleep, a few weeks short of his 104th birthday, a life well lived. Our photo today is Bill in 1945.
