JG301 June-? 1944
Hi guys
Continuing the V-1 assault theme, I understand that I/JG301 was responsible for protecting the ski launch sites in the Pas de Calais area. I note that two aircraft from this Gruppe landed in error at Manston on the night of 20-21 July, Ltn Prenzel and Fw Gromill both being taken prisoner. Were they involved in this duty at the time of their misfortune? Did I/JG301 claim any victories in defence of the ski sites? Were their other losses? Cheers Brian |
Re: JG301 June-? 1944
According to the 'K' reports for these two pilots they were on a Wilde Sau operation over Northern France this night. Up untill thr Invasion I/JG 301 were based at Munchen/Neubiberg but then moved to St.Dizier flying from here and other Bases. It is also claimed the unit had one of its biggest soccesses on the night of 7/8th July flying against RAF bombers attacking the Flying Bomb supply dump at St.Leu d'Esserant,

Regarding the losses spread during this time we note that end of june they are seated around Epinoy airfield/northern France, then in middle france, then one more time in northern part of France nd belgium, so that gives credit to your thought
