Airco DH.4 / serial A7498

Hi all,

I am trying to confirm the loss of DH.4 serial A7498 as I believe this was destroyed?

It served with No. 18 Squadron, that is all I know.

Also, where was No. 18 Squadron based in August 1917?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Danny

From a 2019 post on theaerodrome.com: Capt Thomas Frederick Wailes Thomson (Ok) & 2nd-Lieut Leslie Oliver Stocken (Ok), 18 Sqn, DH4 A7498 - overran aerodrome into corn and ran into shell hole during practice landings
This on 5 August 1917.
No. 18 Squadron was at La Bellevue, east of Doullens, France in Aug 1917.

That however was not the end of the aircraft.
It was taken to the Air Repair Section at 2nd Air Depot on 8 Aug 1917 and assigned to the 2nd Aircraft Repair Section.
Delivered to 49Sq 23 Nov 1917
It later came under constant repair/storage and was finally w/o when its u/c collapsed during landing 30 May 1918
It was SOC 3 June 1918 as "no longer worth repairing"

Cheers
Stig

Stig,
Indeed.
For RFC serials this website I had overlooked is helpful: http://www.airhistory.org.uk/rfc/aircraft.html
