JB Cain and VX-3

Does anyone know when this officer was with VX-3. I know he was there on 1957-8 testing the F8U but his next appointment appaears to commander of the AFS USS REGULUS in 1964. Was he with VX-3 from 1957-63?

VX-3 was decommissioned on 1 March 1960 so he could not have been assigned to it after that date.
