ME321 question
Hi,
So, I have question about the Giant gliders. For the start date, code "Warsaw South and Warsaw East project for Junkers and its model," what date do you know? Did it all start in Lepheim? As mentioned, were 100 models built? (Please, only for the ME-321, i.e., the model towed by two HEs or two ME 110s.) One date I have read was January 10, 1940. But that must be wrong, since only after France, Belgium, and Holland could Hitler and Goering proudly list their use of them against the USSR. So I found a second date, October 12, 1940, when Goering and his Ministry of Aviation transmitted the code "Warsaw East" for the construction of the Junker firm's project, and the code "Warsaw South" for the Messerschmitt firm's project. thank's! |
Re: ME321 question
From Geoffrey:
For some nostalgia, William Green in Warplanes of the Third Reich has the design requests made around 17 or 18 October 1940, with a deadline of 1 November, approval to go ahead to build 100 of each type given on 6 November. Junkers first flight April 1941, bad result, project officially abandoned in May. Me321 first flight February 1941, production at Leipheim and Obertraubling with 175 reported built July 1941 to April 1942. Other references do not fundamentally disagree with the dates. |
