Missing Information in JG-2 1944 (Mombeek)

While going through a book about a P-38 pilot (474FG), the author describes their first combat loss on May 7,1944.Fw190s of 2./JG-2 attacked a 474FG formation and downed 3 P-38s (T.Wood list). This combat is not mentioned in Eric Mombeeks's 1944 JG-2 book. Wonder why?

Hi

I probably supplied Erich with the JG 2's claims, so don't know why they are missing from his book. 8./JG 77(2) and 9./JG 77(1) also made claims. 2./JG 2's are:-

1006 hrs Maruader(not Lightning) 4300 metres by Oblt Detlef Großfuß at Charleville.
1015 hrs Lightning 2500 metres by Uffz Jürgen Otzen at Charleville.
1017 hrs Lightning 1300 metres by Großfuß at Charleville.

anerk.nr 97-99.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Missing Information in JG 2 1944 (Mombeek)

Hi guys

I have that the B-26 twin-engined bomber that Leutnant Detlef Grossfuss (20 victories, DK-G), Staffelkapitän of 2./JG 2, claimed that day was B-26B (41-31845) of 452 BS, 322 BG, USAAF flown by Lt Joseph Wright, 4 POW, 2 evaded. I hope this information is useful and that this isn't my final post on this wonderful forum!

Horrido!

Leo

Hi guys,

I am saddened to learn of the closure of this wonderful site, which I have visited regularly for several decades. I will miss it. Many thanks to Ruy and his team.
As a final message, I would like to correct Kaki's comment: he misread the book, as the details of I./JG 2's involvement in the battle on May 7 are of course included in both the German and French versions. And indeed, with the effective support of my friend Johannes, I could not have missed this information.
That's all cleared up now.

Thanks again to Ruy.
Erik

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa"

I did not remember that Eric had separated I/JG-2 in the book. I was totally wrong

Missing Information in JG 2 1944 (Mombeek)

Hi ClinA-78

It looks like the forum will continue to exist until December of this year by which time hopefully a permanent solution will have been found to keep it going for many more years as it's the best place by far for serious research. Many thanks for your details regarding the crash sites. I suppose this means that the Lightning that Grossfuss claimed was P-38J (42-67522) of 429 FS, 474 FG, USAAF flown by 2/Lt Buford Thacker, evaded.

Horrido!

Leo
