An Australian pilot
In Ampthill churchyard 3m. from here lays 2Lt. Eustace J. V. McGee killed when his Snipe E7384 (Central Dispatch Pool London) crashed on a ferry flight taking off from a field in Ampthill, probably spun-in in fog; he was born in S. Yarra Victoria. I always visit his grave when there.
It would be good if a family member in Australia or S. Africa could see this and know he is not forgotten. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/...h_venner-mcgee Also in this churchyard is a Canadian pilot ( born in England, his parents lived in Ampthill) W/O Douglas H. Welch RAFVR killed 22 Oct. 1943 in Halifax DK182 from 427 Sqn. RCAF. Crashed soon after take-off near York. Nick |
