Re: NVLM He-111-WNr. 3228
Thanks Chris, I'm looking for the circumstances of the Heinkel crash, whether it was during takeoff or on the way back from its mission.

Sorry cannot lay my hands on it-will have a look in the week

Re: NVLM He-111-WNr. 3228
As far as I know the NVM does not give that detail in this case. Time of crash was 01.45 hrs.

Re: NVLM He-111-WNr. 3228
Not the Nam Ver, but does this help?
1./KGr. 126 Heinkel He111H-4 (3228). Crashed and burned out 5 km east of Nantes on return from sortie, cause unknown. BO Uffz Hans Reith, BF Obergefr Walter Loewe, BM Gefr Robert Kirchner, and FF Oberfhr Ernst Mayer all killed. Aircraft 1T+CH 100% write-off. |
Re: NVLM He-111-WNr. 3228

Re: NVLM He-111-WNr. 3228
24.10.40
KGr.126 dispatched 3 He 111H from Nantes for mining sorties off the harbor of Belfast/North Ireland. Three 3 LMB were dropped off Cardiff and 3 LMB off Belfast. One He 111H of KGr.126 crashed at 01.45 hrs on return flight to Nantes probably due to bad weather. It was the first loss of mine-laying units since a long time |
Re: NVLM He-111-WNr. 3228
Thank you gentlemen for your answers, we did not know if for this mission, the Heinkel had crashed during takeoff or on its return flight.
