USAF plane shot down November 5, 1944

1944, November 5, central Italy near Bologna: the P-47 Republic Thunderbolt single-seater fighter-bomber, known as “Jug”, of Lieutenant Clifford Karrels, a US aviator, was hit by a German anti-aircraft shell that punctured the engine’s oil tank, forcing the US soldier to parachute into the countryside of Anzola.

Does anyone have any further information on the event and exact location of the crash?

Thanks, Toni

....and to be 100% correct Toni
USAF did not exist in 1944, it was USAAF

Lt. Karrel's loss as written in the squadron's Morning Report of 5 Nov 1944: https://catalog.archives.gov/id/5764...ct-thumb--2461

It (also) provides a location.
