6 September 1944 NJ680 Auster V at 'Field 2060 Hungerlen', Belgium

Hi,

On 6 September 1944, Capt. Benjamin Hargreaves (Royal Regiment of Artillery, 198121) tried to take off in Auster V NJ680 of 653 (AOP) Sqdn. from a very small 'airfield' in Belgium. The plane failed to get airborne and hit a fence (cat E).

The Form AM1180 mentions that this happened in Belgium at ‘Field 2060 Hungerlen’. I could not find the village/hamlet with the name ‘Hungerlen’.

Any idea where this improvised airstrip was located ?

Many thanks and best regards

Luc

Hi Rudi,

Hingene was already liberated on 6/09/1944, so it is a possibility.

Best regards

Luc
