Luftwaffe claim - 13 June 1943 - Spitfire 222 Squadron

On 13 June 1943 F/Lt John Hall of No. 222 Squadron was shot down '35 miles E. of Manston' according Summary and ORB. This was in Spitfire BS405. Pilot POW on later date.
Looking for matching LW-claim, especially time (somewhere mid-morning) when this shoot down occurred.

Info welcome, thanks.

Ogefr Schoehl, 8./JG 26, 0955hrs 20km N. Dunkirk?

Thanks, Chris. May match. Thing is that many/most websites say that Hall was shot down at 08.03 hrs nr Dinteloord, SW Holland, but I have my doubts.
Loss there may have been Sgt William Johnson of No. 541 Squadron in BS498 instead.

Re: Luftwaffe claim - 13 June 1943 - Spitfire 222 Squadron

The unofficial 222 Sqn diary might add some more. Wing took off 0830hrs, RV bombers Bradwell Bay, crossed coast east of Knocke. Orbit north of Antwerp, sweep Overflakkee to Flushing. Crossed coast at Westkapelle, orbit toward Bruges, crossed coast again at Blankenburg. Hall was then bounced by a lone Fw 190-Spitfire seen in a spin and on fire 35 miles east of Manston. Wing crossed coast at North Foreland and landed at 1025hrs. The other claim for a Spitfire was 0803hrs north of Bergen on Zoom by 5./JG 1 which doesn't match time and location-wise while Horst-Guenther Schoehl's claim seems more realistic. It was unconfirmed as it would appear he was alone and not witnessed

Thanks for additional info, adding to my doubts about texts with Hall being shot down at 08.03 hrs near Dinteloord, also north of Bergen-op-Zoom.

Hi Leendert
All my sources (2nd hand) says he became POW the same day.
On which date DID he become a POW?

Cheers
Stig

All I have is Joe Hall was posed in from 122 Sqn 12 May 43 and then missing 13 June 43 "afterwards POW"

Thanks Chris

So in reality he became POW the same day he went MIA

Cheers

Stig, unless Hall was mistaken, he himself wrote 15 June 1943 as date of capture on his postwar questionnaire. Place of capture 'Schoven, Holland', which I interpret as Schouwen Island, Zeeland province. Brought ashore there if landed in sea?
A Walrus of 276 Squadron was sent on 13 June 1943 for a search of a downed Spitfire pilot, but no result.

222 Sqn diary mentions Walrus but that is all
