Hptm Diether Lukesch Claim 1944
 

The above of III./KG 76 made a claim of a US four-engined ac at night in the Med Spring 1944; does anyone have a date or location?

Apart from sounding extremely odd(unit, type everything really), I couldn't find this on the mikrofilms.

They flew the Ju 88C-6 as well as the Ju 88A but thanks

..sorry, no. But in an old interview he does state (loosely translated..) ;

"... for a time I was given command of a long-range night-fighter unit based in Crete where my blind-flying experience as a reconnaissance pilot was put to good use. However, this period in Crete lasted only a few months, and I rejoined KG 76 - our Ju 88s were in Villaorba in late 1944..."

KG 76 left Italy in mid-June 1944. There were still two Ju 88s from the III. Gruppe at Villaorba on 9 June (BA RL 21/214, KTB of Fl.H.Kdtr. E 62/XI).
