W/C Bader and the Spitfire II and V
 

In 1941 the squadrons of the Tangmere Wing slowly swapped from the Spitfire Mk II to the Mk V.

At what point did W/C Bader make the switch, can anyone tie it down to a date?

Hi Martin. From Michael Burns' "Bader the man and his men" p.174+
The Mk. Vs were delivered early July 41, in order 145,610, 616. 616 Sqn. got 12 Vb s July 22. Bader kept his IIa until all were with the Wing. He preferred his IIa (due to cannon problems) but got a Va (W3185) late July. Afraid don't know date though.

I thought it must be around the end of July or early August

Hello Martin,

To further clarify:

According to Bader's logbook entries for this period, he last flew his Spitfire II on July 26, 1941. His next flights, and the only 3 flights in his Spitfire V, were on August 4th, 7th, and 9th (final sortie).
