Dennis Knight
 

Just found out that Dennis died a day or so ago.

One of the true pioneers of research, dating back to the 1960s when, with Peter Foote, he visited many of the places where BoB aircraft came down in southern England and got the stories from the locals who remembered the crashes.

Met him on a couple of occasions. A true gentleman in every sense of the word.

RIP Dennis.

It is with great sadness that we hear that pioneering historian and author Dennis Knight has passed away at the age of 95.
As a schoolboy living near Croydon, he witnessed many of the dog-fights of the Battle of Britain that made a lasting impact on him. After serving as an officer in the post-war British Army, he trained as a designer and artist.
Intrigued to discover more about the Battle of Britain, in the early 1960s he set off to record the accounts of many people who also saw the events, recording them in meticulous detail and using his skill as an artist to illustrate them.
Dennis will be well known to many of us for his 'rub-down' action transfer books that covered a huge range of subjects from the Battle of Britain to his wife's passion of Ballet. He went on to write 'Harvest of Messerschmitts' and more recently our own 'Dennis Knight's Battle of Britain Sketch Book'. He also found time to create a range of small-scale model aircraft and the Helmet Products range of 54mm Napoleonic figures.
Dennis was also instrumental in rescuing an Me109 from a Canadian scrapyard and returning it to Britain. This is the Me109 that thousands of visitors to the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, see every year. We made a film about this very subject, we'll include a link in the comments.
Dennis was an Officer and a Gentleman, he will be greatly missed
