3x victory 25 May 44 over same flight P-38.
Three P-38 Lightnings 364th Fighter Group 383rd Fighter Squadron Yellow Flight, were lost in engagement with FW190 on 25 May 44. All crashed around Dreux France
John A Kerig (returned) Clarence F Scrivner 746195 POW Wounded facial burnslazarett Paris Clichy P-38 43-28425 Leroy Q Olson 756673 POW P-38 42-68034 Ames Vaud V 754576 POW P-38 42-67222 From the MACR: I was the leader of Escort Yellow Flight, which included Lt. Scrivner, Lt. Olson, and Lt. Ames. We were flying a course of 230 degrees at 12000 feet on 25 May, 1944 about 1045, when some one called "flak, Kerig." Then I saw what looked like small bursts of flame, similar to light flak, in front of my plane. Breaking slightly, I looked in my rear view mirror for more flak but saw nothing. Immediately another call came over the radio, "190's," whereupon I broke right violently and saw Lt. Olson's right engine afire, and an enemy plane on my tail. Evading my pursuer, I attacked another and fired at him, claiming a probable, breaking the attack when still another was shooting at me. Members of Escort Blue Flight then arrived and engaged the remaining enemy, and at this time, I saw a parachute descending from the direction I'd noticed Lt. Olson flying; so I assumed it was he. I neither saw nor heard from the other two men in my flight, Lts. Scrivner and Ames, after the engagement began; and I believe they were shot down early therein. No other parachutes were seen In KUJ 1327 page 2 there is a notion of these events. Can we tell who claimed these? |
