Loss Bf 109 NW to NNW of Nauen 18-04-1944
In MACR 4125 about the loss of George C Carpenter 885208 Pilot POW P-51 42-106675 (4th Fighter Group 335th Fighter Squadron) enemy aircraft crashed Eichstedt 9 km N of Stendal 18-04-1944 14:30, on pg 3 there is a description of a Bf 109 loss:
" I then fired at the rear 109 which half rolled and split S'd. I followed it down thinking it was not hurt badly, but it never pulled out, hitting the ground and exploding a few miles NW to NNW of Nauen. I confirm this Me-109 for the Major, as at no time did I get any strikes on it." To me it look very much a KIA but i cant find one. Closets i come is Unteroffizier Albin Trübenbach (3./JG 302) he bailed out airplane crashed near Nauwen ( which i think a attacking pilot would have seen or he bailed before the chase) I would like to connect the Carpenter victory if possible. Thoughts? |

It was not uncommon to fail to note a bailing out pilot. Sometimes it was referred as big pieces falling off.

The nearest I can find is:
1944-04-18, 1./JG 3, Bf 109 G-5, 110348, 12 weiße, Grüz, 7 km nordnordwestlich Rathenow Flugzeugführer Uffz Sauer, Erich (* 1922-07-05, EM 59740/382), tot Absturz nach Luftkampf. Bruch 100 %. This is only 25 km east from the location in your description. Matti |
