D-Day veteran, RAF Association member and dedicated teacher Colin Cole has sadly passed away at the age of 107.
Colin was well known in Oswestry for his distinguished RAF service, his years as a respected teacher, and his commitment to volunteering well into his centenarian years. As the last surviving member of the RAF Sea Rescue crews involved in the D-Day landings, Colin played a vital role during the Second World War, serving as a radio operator on Lysander aircraft before joining Air Sea Rescue operations in the English Channel.
Despite being unable to swim, he helped rescue downed Spitfire pilots, modestly describing his extraordinary wartime efforts as "just a job." Following his RAF career, Colin devoted himself to education, including supporting children with disabilities.
Our thoughts are with Colin's family, friends. Lest we forget. See less
