FW 190 D-9 Top Speed

Hi Guys
looking for some info on the top speed of this plane, most books are showing it with a top speed of 426 MPH, but have seen some reports saying it could hit 440

would that be a sub model of the basic plane ?

also seeing some of the British Test reports, that were done on it, and most of them were haveing trouble hitting 400 with the planes they had (but I think most of these may have to be taken with a grain of salt, as I believe they say one blew a engine and the other engine also ended up with some troubles)

The official performance statistics from Focke Wulf are as follows:

Fw 190D-9: 426 mph @ 21,654 ft. with the Jumo 213A-1 engine (1770 hp)
Fw 190D-12: 454 mph @30,020 ft. with Jumo 213E-1 engine (1870 hp)
Fw 190D-14: 441 mph @ 24,278 ft. with the DB 603E engine (1800 hp)

I don't have any statistics on the D-9 with the Jumo 213A-2 with MW (2240 hp) but it would be considerable faster than the A-1 engine.

Fw 190D-9 service ceiling

On a related topic, I have read several sources that cite the Fw 190D-9's service ceiling as 32000 ft. Is this true? I thought the Fw 190D-9 had significantly better high-altitude performance than its 190A predecessor.

Flight test date for Fw 190D-9 Wk.-Nr. 210 002 with both "Erhöhte Not-/Startleistung" and with MW-50 injection can be found at NASM.

Some time back a poster, 'Naudet' on the AAWII forums posted the following:

Quote:

But for those that are interested in the FW190D documents from the NASM here are their designations:

1. FW/Fb/FW190-210001 (1-2)
Reel: 8069 Frame: 1153

2. FW/Fb/FW/210001/(3)
Reel: 2861 Frame: 989

3. FW/Fb/FW190-210002 (1,2,3)
Reel: 3996 Frame: 343

4. FW/FW190/Sch/16/3/45
Reel 2731 Frame: 797

Those four together will be exactly 50 pages, so if you order them, you won't exceed the limit per order.

Re: FW 190 D-9 Service Ceiling

Focke Wulf lists the service ceiling of the D-9 as 36,417 ft.

Thank you Sirs

for the Alt, yes I have also seen it showing it as being pretty low, and others, more of what you would expect

the one thing that got me though was they were also saying the top speed at pretty good at the top Alt level, so think the just screwed up

Hello peoples!
In D.Herman's great work "Long Noise Dora" German specification indicate 704 kph=437,5 mph using MW-50 system.
Many useful inform you can find in A. Williams' site as follows:

Re: FW 190 D-9 Top Speed

Gentlemen:
On 20 Jan 1945, my flight of four bounced estimated 40 FW-190s. I eventually was alone with quite a few of them and finally decided to head for home. Several FW-190 D-9 (est 12- 15) chased me at an estimated 32,000 feet all the way from Regensburg to Alps but kept falling further and further behind. My P-51D was rated at 437 mph top speed so I doubt these FW-190s could do over 430 mph.
Cordially, Art Fiedler

Re: FW 190 D-9 Top Speed

For Sondernotleistung (MW50) of D-9 Jumo 213A I find 702km/h = 436mph @ 5,5km alt.
For Sondernotleistung (MW50) of Ta152H-0 Jumo 213E I find 742km/h = 461mph @9,5km alt.

The Ta152H was a Höhenjäger (for high altitude), so it was NOT designed for low altitudes (ground level).
