Air battle over Portland

On the 11th July 1940 two Bf110C, having been shot down, crashed into the clifftop at Portland. One was piloted by Oberlt Hans - Joachim Goering, the other by Lt Friedrich-Wolfgang Graf zu Castell.
It is possible that the crash site of one of these aircraft, can be identified from a photograph taken at the time and also by local information it can be confirmed that a Bf110 came screaming out of the sky and crashed in the area of the crash site.
The site has a maximum depth of earth say 1 - 2 feet (30-60 cm) at most.
From this it can be assumed that neither pilot's or rear gunner's of either of these aircraft survived, can this be confirmed.

Re: Air battle over Portland

Only one Bf110C crashed on Portland Verne, the other went into the sea off Portland. Neither crew survived all being posted as 'missing' although Uffz Albert ZIMMERMANN who was gunner aboard GOERING's aircraft was later confirmed 'killed' in a signal dated 20 May 1942.
