Heinkel He 111F-4
40 He 111F-4s were built for the Luftwaffe but no F-4s were assigned to frontline units on 1/9/39 according to this website http://www.ww2.dk/misc/ob1939.htm. Were the F-4s only used for training?
Thanks, Neil |
Re: Heinkel He 111F-4
Hi Neil,
it is a possibility. There is a photo of an armed He 111 F (F-4?) on page 42 of 'Airdoc's ADC 004 Heinkel He 111'. It is misidentified (as are many photos in this and other books on the He 111) as a He 111 E. This has the code 'PN+A?' and a devil's head/flame emblem - the same as no.456 in 'Luftwaffe Emblems' - also seen on a Ju 52 in Sicily. In the background is a Ju 52 as well. This might mean that it is an operational but as yet unidentified courier/liaison/utility staffel - although obviously the training role cannot be eliminated. As I mentioned earlier, beware of taking anything at face value in many published works. I'll see if there are any more possible examples - i have a feeling that there may be more. Cheers GrahamB |
