Arado 68 and 196

I'm looking for any information regarding losses of Ar 68s and Ar 196s by frontline units during the war.

Thanks,

Neil

Re: Arado 68 and 196

I do not hink you will receive a lot of answers to this question. It is a little bit like: "Please send me all you have about the Luftwaffe in WW 2".
You have to narrow it down to specific accidents or something like that. Please bear in mind that for the Ar 196 only, I have hundreds of accidents, losses and other information. This information has been obtained mainly by personal visits to Bundesarchiv in Freiburg. Being a non German, this is a costly affair, the copying of documents only amounts to considerable sums. If you want the kind of information you ask for, you are espected to give something in return in the form of other information that could be of interest for me or anyone else.
Im am not trying to be negative, but I hope you see the point.
By the way, I do not think there were a lot of, or any at all, Ar 68 losses by operational units during WW 2.

Re: Arado 68 and 196

To be more specific about what I'm looking for:

Ar 68 losses in frontline squadrons for September to December 1939.

Williamson Murray's book 'Luftwaffe, Strategy for Defeat 1933-45' states that on 4/5/40 there were 241 planes in coastal squadrons. Between May and September 1940 58 coastal planes were lost due to enemy action and a further 62 were destroyed not due to enemy action. I have found details of Do 18 and Do 26 losses in this website http://histaviation.com/Dornier.html. I am looking for similar details for other coastal types, including the Ar 196 for the period May to September 1940.

Thanks,

Neil

Hello Neil

In the night of 31 August/1 September there was a AR-196 from Teilstaffel 1./196 ( bordflugstaffel)crashed 4 miles from the Dyke of Nijkerk,Holland in the Zuiderzee. The crew,Lt.z.See Kuhlberg and Uffz.Scheel, were rescued by the Dyke-master Kedde.

On the 7th of August crashed by the landing the T3+FH at the base of Schellingwoude.Uffz.Schmiade was KIA and Lt.z.See Nowrat was wounded

On the 7th of Oktober crashed AR-196A.2,T3+BK workno.0069,with
Lt.z.See Eberhard Stelter and Fw.Jakobsen.Both were KIA.
The Arado has not enough speed and overrun, and dove from 50m into the water.

Neil,

Three sites that have loss lists that can be cross referenced are

www.luftwaffe.no
www.rafandluftwaffe.info
www.flensted.eu.com

Maybe even the LEMB Stamkennzeichen database might have something for you

www.luftwaffe-experten.org/stammkennzeichen.html
