Hi Fred

Is this airplane crashed at Redu or Sainte-Cecile ? because there are 30KM between the two places , a supposed Do-17 crashed at Redu “Les Waolins (?)” the 12th maybe 7./KG 2
Fw Klöttschen (POW)--- Lt Giesecke (POW)---Uffz Tillner (POW)---Fw Rösl (POW)
But I am not sure at all .

Re: 1/ St/ KG3 Do17Z, crashed May 12,1940,Sainte Cecile-Rédu,B.

All,

These are I believe the 2 Do-17Z's that crashed in the belgian Ardennes on May 12:

Do-17Z 5K+?A of Stab/KG3 at REDU ~10.45
Crew: Hptm ALTVATER (observer, wounded), Obfw Fritz SCHWEDE (Bordfunker, wounded), rest unhurt: Lt H. HÜBNER, Obfw H. BOLOWSKI, Obgfr K. ROSENKRANZ
Aircraft claimed by Hawk H75 pilots of GC I/5 (Suippes) during patrol towards Sedan. The aircraft was flying alone, and was attacked by capitaine Acart (No 151-1), sergent-chef Morel (193), Sgt Perina (254), Lt Marin la Meslée (158-2), Lt Rey (204) and sergent-chef Penzini. Accart is hit by return fire, slightly wounded and has to return. The others continue for a while, and finally Morel continues the chase until the aircraft chashes near Redu.

Do-17Z U5+?R of 7./KG2 at BERTRIX ~18.00
Landed in Vresse, 20 km west of Bertrix.
Crew: Pilot Fw Willy KLÖTTSCHEN, Observer Lt Dietrich GIESECKE, Bordfunker Uffz Paul TILLNER, Bordmechaniker Fw Hans RÖSL all lightly wounded and taken prisoner by french, but later returned to their unit.
Part of III./KG2 formation that attacked area south of Charleville, hit by french DTCA over Signy.

Hope this helps.

Pieter

Hi,

According to my information, at least three German aircraft crashed in the Sainte Cécile area on May 12th 1940. They were Junkers Ju 87 from the StG 2 and StG 76.

Rgds.

Flupke,

The Do-17Z F1+DR of 7./KG76 was shot down on May 10 around 05.30 near Fontaine-les-Vervins in France by Moranes of GC II/2. De crew of Fw Walter Reiske, Fw Heinrich Sedlak. Fw Ernst Brauer and Gefr Karl Fritz was taken prisoner. See Rupture sur la Meuse of Jacques Sacré.

The possible victim of Campbell around 15.00 on te same day can not be identified, but is almost certainly not a 7./KG76 machine.

Montana is right that on May 12 more planes came down around St Cécile:

Ju-87B S1+?K of 2./St.G76 at St-CÉCILE, close to the French border between Bouillon and Florenville, ~10.30
Crew: pilot unknown, bordfunker Gefr Ludwig KIRNER, wounded.

No Stuka's of St.G2 could have come down around St Cécile, since this unit was operating over the north of Belgium.

Regards,

Pieter
