He 162 Prototype photo
Hi
I recently got the attached photo of a He 162 prototype (early type wingtips, Revi 16 at the front position). I haven't seen a photo of this prototype yet (the one I know has a much lighter camouflage of the engine nacelle). Does anybody know more about this particular He 162? Regards Roger Gaemperle |
Re: He 162 Prototype photo
Hi Roger,
You are right this one is not the V1, but from early wingtips is certainly from the seven prototypes following V1 W.Nr. ranging from 200002 to 200008... To help the id could you tell us if any gun barrel is visible protruding to the exterior on your original document? I suppose none is visible but would like to be sure... |
Re: He 162 Prototype photo
If there is no visible barrel it cant be M7 nor M8 which got MG151/20 guns.
M6 is known and got a different kind of balken cross on the fuselage. M5 was used for destructive test and never flew. M3 and M4 got the downward wingtips. (but perhaps not for their first rollout?) So imho, M2 W.Nr.200002 looks to be the best bet. Another possibility is that among the 20 pre-production order W.Nr. 220001 to 220020, the first one was complited before M6 and so could also got early wingtips and early balken cross, obviously doubtful. Cheers, olivier. |
Re: He 162 Prototype photo
Hi Olivier,
Thanks for the most interesting information. I had a look at the photo again but I can't tell with certainty that there is no barrel. The area is quite dark there and it could be that there is a barrel although I would rather guess not. Does so far another photo of M2 exist? Bets regards Roger |
