Hans Krause-zwei Halifaxes shot down

In Obermaier,Hans Krause, Staffelkapitaen 6./NG-101, was credited with shooting down two Halifaxes while making an armed reconnaissance flight "bei Cap Ancona". Does anyone know the date of this event?

I have a source that states on November 17/18, 1944 that he shot down 2 Wellingtons in the area of CAP ANCONA for his 25-26th kills. The Identification of the RAF bombers could be wrong of course. I suspect he was flying a Bf 110G-4 at this time

Dear Kaki 3152

Just out of curiosity, what Obermaier are you talking about?
What book (source?) are you referring to??

Can everybody please try to be more specific when referring to sources

Cheers

Stig:

He is referring to Die Ritterkrueztrager Der Luftwaffe, 1939-1945, Band 1, Jagdflieger by Ernst Obermaier, last published in 1986. It is out of print, but it is an essential reference if you can get one.

John
Of course I have Obermaier and his first book
I have the first printing in 1966 and it says
"Not much is known about this night fighter pilots career. He flew with the NJG 3 and II./NJG 101. Kommandeur I./NJG 4 from December 1944
Total of 28 night fighter victories. "

Obviously you and Kaki has a later addition. But please be aware that there are some of us who CANNOT afford to by EVERY issue published in second and even third printings!!

My main aim is not for someone else to answer my plea but for the origin of the question asked to be more careful when referring to sources!!

Stig,

Sorry,I should have written out the entire title but I got lazy.Yes, i have the second edition, published in 1989 which is entirely in German. In my mind, this edition is esential for any Luftwaffe histirian since it has much more detail than the first edition.

At the risk of getting back to the original topic (well, almost) is this "Cap Ancona" the Ancona on the Adriatic Coast of Italy?

If so, how did a 6./NJG 101 aircraft come to be there in November 1944? It's a long way from Parndorf, Austria (which is where Gebhard Aders' "History of the German Night Fighter Force" puts II./NJG 101 in November of '44): about 500 km in a straight line.

Also, this wasn't a period with much German activity over the Adriatic by night and what there was was meticulously logged by MAAF Signals Intelligence: usually recon flights by 4. and 6.(F)/122 with the occasional agent dropping mission by 4./KG 200.

None of this makes the presence of a German night fighter off Ancona impossible but it would be highly unusual, if not unique.

On 17th November 1944 Hauptmann Krause started this mission in Parndorf at 20.11 h, he landed there at 23.45 h, more than three and a half our later. His plane was a Ju 88 C or G at this time. Location of where he shoot down the two "Halifax" was named "Planquadrat 25", Cap Ancona. His crew where Oberfeldwebel Otto Zinn (Bordfunker) and Oberfeldwebel Friedrich Specht (Schütze/Mechaniker).
Perhaps HANS KRAUSE can say more details of this mission, he´s still alive today.
