219 Squadron
On the 19/8/42 the 219 Squadron ORB lists one Beaufighter as being lost during a GCI test flight over the north sea. PO H.J. Kendrick was lost but the other crew member was recovered. Does anybody have any more information?

Re: 219 Squadron
Steve,
Following extract (p49) from 219's Sqdn history sheds light : 'Pilot Officer Carroll, who in July had been forced to abandon his aircraft, once again found himself on the end of a parachute harness on 19th August, when Beaufighter X8219 suffered elevator failure whilst approximately forty miles out from the Northumbrian coast. Though on the previous occasion Carroll's crewman survived the incident, sadly on this occasion P/O Kendrick failed to get out of the aircraft. Having no known grave, his name is inscribed on the Runnymede Memorial.' Source : From Dusk Till Dawn, 219 Squadron History 1918-1957 Auth TW Kitching. |
Re: 219 Squadron
Thanks for that; I wanted to confirm that the loss was indeed from a non-combat cause and now I can see that it certainly was.
Thanks again, Steve |
