What would something like this be worth to You?

Hi!

I've been doing some profilework lately and somehow I feel that I want to publish or release the profiles one way or the other. I'm thinking A4 prints with two profiles each, maybe some theme like two aircraft flown by the same pilot or same unit, or maybe the same aircraft from both sides. So the big question is - would it be worth it? I'm not trying to get rich here I just want to see if I could do this without actually losing money because in that case I think I'd give it a miss :)

So my question is simply what you think would be a reasonable prize for a print like that? I'm including a couple of samples, the originals are in higher resolution... Since I'd do everything from home, I'd be able to take requests too by the way.

Hi:

I can't comment on the value, but I can comment on your work. It looks great! Perhaps other artists could provide you with some input based on their experiences.

I agree with Mark, very well done Bf 109's. May I ask what other Luftwaffe a/c you have done ??.

what print dimensions are you thinking ?

Thanks!

I understand that it's difficult to say, my first idea was somewhere around some $7 or $8 to make it worthwhile. I saw that Tom Tullis charges $25 for his profile prints but they are twice as big and Tom Tullis is, well, Tom Tullis and I wound't want to compare myself to him... :)

Erich: I'm thinking A4 size, which is roughly 20x30cm's, that's what my profiles are made for. Bigger than that and I'd have to start from scratch. I've only got 109's so far, but I've learned so much doing these that I think it would be much easier to go to other aircraft now compared to when I started the 109.

that is very reasonable, but I ask again what size are you thinking ?

Don't sell yourself short Anders, these profiles look every bit as nice as the work of Tom and others...I would love to see you do some JU88 G-1 or G-6 NJG aircraft profiles. there were some very interesting late war cammo patterns on these aircraft, and also they seem to be largly forggotten by the profile artists.

Anders:

I'm in total agreement with Kevin. Don't sell your self short. Certainly you are no Tom Tullis. By the same measue, Tom is no Anders! Every profile artists brings there own unique quality to their work. If anything, I'd rather you find your own style and not emulate others.

I have worked with a few profile artists for publishing projects, including TT, and I think I know potential when I see it.

I have made a lot of sale of the color profiles but it is not some large addition. Price are not much and I think that average price for the A4 form is some 12 USD. Best try is to via e-bay and the other place is to contact some of artist gallery.

Re: What would something like this be worth to You?

Thanks for Your nice comments! I've got some good ideas both here and on other forums, now I've just got to show the prints to someone and get suggestions on paperquality and print quality and so on, but your comments are a very good start!

Erich: I put the size down earlier, but I wrote European measurements, I'm not quite sure how many inches that would make, I'd have to come back later with that.

Your drawings looks very nice to me too. You mentioned size A-4 so A-4 is A-4 in any country, in inchces or centimeters.
You´re not Tom Tullis but first time I saw his drawings they were just black and white ones published on Luftwaffe Verband magazines. Everybody must have a starting point. Fernando Estanislau is another example. He did some drawings for internet articles I wrote few years ago. Then I put him in contact with John Vasco when he was looking for an ilustrator and today I´m very happy to see Fernando´s work on several books. Your profiles may be a starting point for a future work in a publishing house, who knows?
