You should buy "Soviet Lend-Lease Fighter Aces of WW2" by G. Mellinger (Osprey #74).
It's difficult to assess because many aces scored while flying different types of aircraft. However, according to the author it seems that the P-40 top ace was Lt.Col. Stepan Novichkov, 29 victories including 19 while flying a P-40K with 436 IAP.

Novichkov claimed 33(pers.)+1(shared) air victories during GPW, of which only 6+1 while flying a P-40, 7 flying Hurricanes and the rest of score - flying Airacobras.

The highest scored soviet P-40 pilot was according my sources 2HSU Petr Pokryshev, who had not less then 14+6 air victories while flying a P-40 with 154 IAP. HSU Zelenov from the same unit scored 13+8 victories flying a P-40.

The highest scored MiG-3 pilot was Arseniy Dmitriev that scored 15(pers.)+2(shared) air victories (and 1 observation ballon) while flying MiGs with 15 IAP.

Thank You for the tip on Pokryshev,he is one of my favorite Soviet P-40 pilots.
I am going to use the new Hasegawa P-40E in 1/48th scale and a set of Tally Ho! decals to build a model of his plane.

Note that Pokryshev's personal mount was P-40E '50', not '65'. The last plane was LtCol Matveev's machine (unit CO). This error is common for many sources because there are several Pokryshev's photos in front of '65'.

I was aware of that, Thank You
however, it might have been a good idea to let everyone else know so that they don't make that mistake.
the decal sheet 48008 has decals for Gromov's 70,Pokryshev's 50,Matveev's 65 and # 73 of the 154 IAP with no pilot listed.
this sheet is also available in 1/72 nd scale for those of you who prefer that scale.

Good evening Gentlemen,

these are the top five Soviet P-40 aces with their scores in that type:
1. Nikolai Zelenov (Зеленов Николай Андрианович) = 19,23 [17+8]
2. Petr Pokryshev (Покрышев Пётр Афанасьевич) = 15,1 [14+6]
3. Mikhail Mikhalin (Михалин Михаил Федорович) = 14 [13+2]
4. Viktor Zotov (Зотов Виктор Алексеевич) = 13,13 [11+11]
5. Sergei Litavrin (Литаврин Сергей Гаврилович) = 13 [13+0]

These are the top five MiG-3 aces with their scores in that type:
1. Sergei Makarov (Макаров Сергей Васильевич) = 13,99 [11+12]
2. Valentin Figichev (Фигичев Валентин Алексеевич) = 11 [11+0]
3. Konstantin Gruzdev (Груздев Константин Афанасьевич) = 10,83 [9+4]
4. Ivan Golubin (Голубин Иван Филиппович) = 10,67 [10+2]
5. Yevgraf Ryzhov (Рыжов Евграф Михайлович) = 10,33 [9+3]

I am not aware of any scorers in the MiG-1.

Cheers,

Michael
