Re: German unit around Dieppe
Stephane:
Based on Norman Franks' "The Greatest Air Battle - Dieppe 19th August 1942", it seems that there were no figther or bomber geschwaders operating near Dieppe. However, based on a map of the local area (no scale) which included Pont D'Ailly, Dieppe, and Puys, I noticed that there was an airfield - St. Aubin Aerodrome near Arques. In Franks' book, I don't believe he mentioned that this airfield was a target - the focus was on the heavy guns around the Dieppe area. However, thats not to say that a reconnaissance group (Aufklaerer) or other specialty group was not stationed at this site. I also had a quick scan through Mason's "Battle of Britain" Appendix B which lists all the Luftwaffe Fighter and Bomber Geschwaders and their bases in France. Dieppe was not mentioned specifically. If you have more information it might help in identifying the unit stationed near Dieppe. |
Re: German unit around Dieppe
Thank you Dave,
No i haven't any information, just a pic taken near Dieppe from a pilot, 1940. Perhaps he came from a far airfield, i don't know more. Stef |

Does the picture present any other clues such as: aircraft - uniform of the pilot - background paraphernalia like banners, emblems, flying gear ??? |
