Don't know if this is the one you want but it's the only loss I can find that mentions Giessen
22 - 23 March 1944 578 Squadron Halifax III LW540 LK-R Op. Frankfurt Took off at 1843hrs from Burn. Homebound, shot down from 21,200 feet by a JU 88, patrolling in the vicinity of Giessen. With the starboard wing well alight the crew baled out at around 17,000 feet. All pow. Regards Peter |
