FW-190 canopies?
Here are a few FW-190 canopy questions, hope you can help.
When were the "blown" canopies developed? Some D-9's have the "A" model canopy, some don't. Was the blown canopy already in use with the "F" models and then put on the "D's" or were they introduced on both models in the same time frame? Where "D's" with "A" model canopies retrofitted in the field? How about the use on TA-152's? TIA, Mike |
Re: FW-190 canopies?
I hope this helps,
As far as i know there is no set date for the introduction of the blown canopy, as with many late war luftwaffe items many were swapped from aircraft to aircraft or whatever available was used. The blown canopy is a completly new item, the angle of the glass/metel joint is different from that of the flat style so glass cannot be swapped from one frame to another but whole canopy assemblies can be change from aircraft to aircraft. I think the Ta 152 used the blown style but it was "double glazed" for use with high altitude work, i cant recall seeing a 152 with an early flat canopy but i look forward to being proved wrong!
