Hard helmet use by the Luftwaffe
 

This is i am aware a bit of an open question with no real answer but, was the use of converted German infantry helmets common with Luftwaffe bomber crews, especially around the Battle of Britain period.
Was this something often discovered in Luftwaffe wreck digs during the days of mass Battle of Britain digs in the 1960's and 70's?
