5./KG54 He111 B3+HN down in France 1940
Hello,
As a follow up to my recent post, I'm trying to ID another photo of a force-landed He111, B3+HN of 5./KG54. It has a long gash in the left rear fuselage, but is relatively undamaged. Presumably this plane came down during the Campaign in the west. KG54 records suggests the following two possibilities: 21.5.40 Uffz Hanstedt in the Calais area. 27.5.40 Uffz Stobbe down in the Nieuport area. The background offers no help in identifying this aircraft. Thanx, |

Larry,
Only one tie-up for you in my database on 21 May 1940 I’m afraid: 5./KG54 Heinkel He111P. Both engines damaged in attack by single Morane during sortie to bomb Calais harbour and crashed near Ypres 8.40 p.m. Uffz E. Hanstedt, Uffz H. Loest, and Gefr F. Pannekamp captured unhurt. Gefr W. Bethke captured wounded. Aircraft B3+HN a write-off. |

Peter,
Thanks for the identity info on B3+HN. One more crossed off the list. Regards, |
