Question about Ju88A of 3./KG30 down Denmark 16.3.40
 

Hello,

I'm trying to verify the spelling of the last name of a pilot from 3./KG30 that force-landed on the Danish island of Lolland on 16.3.40. Shores in his "Fledgling Eagles" says the spelling of the pilot's last name was "Mattner," while the "Airwar Over Denmark" website says his name was "Matner." Does anyone know which is correct?

.... Ju 88 A-1 [4D+AL] I/KG 30 (Luftflotte 2)
OPS (F) failed to find it´s base on return, was force landed (100%) at Laaland [Laaland Island, Denmark] 16.03.1940 - Set on fire by crew and burnt out
[LWFLV 1v18.03.40; crew returned later {amd in LWFLV 8v17.04.40}) ; see in Carsten Petersen: ´Tyske Fly I Danmark´ Vol.3. (He 111 and Ju 88) P.44 : Photo and report of 3./KG 30 crew (F Uffz. Werner Mattner, B Obgefr. Erich Voss, BF Uffz. Erich Close and BS Obgefr. Wilhelm Gottlebe) when they failed to find the base on return and belly landing their aircraft near Magelundgaard on North-Western Lolland in Denmark at 01:30 hrs on 17.03.1940. They were handed over to the Danish Police later that morning ; see also Shores & co-authors: ´Fledling Eagles´ P.179; photo of wreck in ´The Aeroplane´ 22.03.1940 (shows early insignia of KG 30 outboard on right engine radiator); rep as 4D+AL on Sören Flensted: ´Áir War over Denmark´ homepage ~ code 4D+ is visible on fuselage right side photo; another photo in Carsten Petersen (P.43) shows the short-wing, narrow white in upperside wing cross, early unit insignia on cowling and faint ´Á´ outside of cross on wing...]
