ME 110 of NJG shot down 15/16 June 1941
Good night for all!
I am doing some researches and come around a claim from a 218 Squadron´s Wellignton gunner on the night of 15/16 June 1941, returning from a Raid on Hannover. The Wellington was flying close to Amsterdam when attacked by a German Night Fighter Me 110. I checked the losses for NJG 1 and found no record for the date. There is any loss on this date for a NJG 2 or NJG 3 machine? The gunner claimed two bursts into the fuselage; and, on the last attack the enemy night-fighter was seen to brake his attack and glide down with the starboard engine on fire. So the gunner was "credited" with the kill. Thanks in advance for any DATA on the subject. Friendly as ever Adriano |

Re: ME 110 of NJG shot down 15/16 June 1941
Thank you so much for the information!
The air-gunner was P/O Frederick Gerald Hudson Chalk who got the DFC on 4th July 1941 for this action ( RAFVR 81389 ). It seems that he later requested to become pilot and underwent pilot training; for it seems that he was shot down by Adolf Glunz while flying a Spitfire later. That´s why I found the story of the Wellington and the German night-fighter. Thank you again for the info! PS: Please could you inform me the reference book ( Author, Editor, year, ISBN? I found it most interesting and would like to buy one in a near futur ). Cheers Adriano |
