26 June 44

Any information regarding the loss of two Bf109's on 26th June 1944 in the Falaise / Lisieux area at approximately 0640. During an armed recce by 403 Sqdn.

As I understand it, two Bf109s were claimed shot down and a further two damaged, possibly right over Lisieux airfield. (Was there an airfield there?) Pilot names would be a great help.

Hello,

Two Me 109 G-6 were shot down in Caen area, on 26 June 1944 ... may be both Me 109s you are looking for :

- the 1st one (WNr.760251) belonged to 6./JG 2, pilot : Uffz. Theodor HARTMANN, wounded.
- the 2nd one (412681) belonged to 1./JG 27, pilot : Ofhr. Siegfried GÜNTHERT, MIA

Caen, Lisieux and Falaise are - roughly - located in the same area.
