Veszprem Airfield, Hungary

Hi group.

Researching Luftwaffe Veszprem airfield in Hungary for an upcoming painting that I am thinking of doing. Need any information this forum may have and want to share regarding location (north or south of the city), any links to photos or documents of this time, and possible recollections from those who were there. I searched Google earth and found 2 possible locations but need more clarification before I can begin preliminary sketches.

I have seen a few pics of Hartmanns' white 109G being serviced but cannot remember where I saw those and how I can get those for reference. Seems it was an aviation magazine a few years back. I thought a prominent historian here in the states had these but he was either reluctant to give them out or did not have the photos.

Any help woud be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Regards,

There are some pictures in the JG53-history by Prien.

Visible is that the AF borders to a wood, and that in another direction, there is a hill-chain on the horizon (maby 2-3kmaway?)

Hoping it helps...

Thank you. I'll check this pub out. I have seen a few photos with the hills in the background and your reference to the woods. Not a good photo op time in those last dreary days it seems....

Thanks again,

Brian

av8rart,

The airfield was north, northwest from Veszprém near Jutaspuszta (the official name was Veszprém-Jutas) You can see a nice picture about the airfield in my Hungarian aces book as well. The hill, situated just north from the airfield is the Papod.
