Luftwaffe soldier research

Hello,

Is there anyone who can find something on :

Feldwebel (can also be Oberfeldwebel) Walter Richter

The only certanity at this point is that he received the Honour Goblet with the date of 20.04.1942 (literature does list him with the date of 16.02.1942)

He should have been a Bordmechanic.

However there is no unit known.

Then we have also the fact that a Walter Richter also received the German Cross in Gold on the date 17.10.1943. This person was serving with the 2./KG 1.

Assuming that this German cross in Gold holder would be the Walter Richter we are searching is a 50 % chance, the name is a exact match etc ... but there is another W.Richter known who did earn the Honour Goblet on the date 08.05.1943. This W.Richter was a Pilot.

So my questions are now:

* Flying units: can we find out the fates of either Bordmechanics or Pilots with the name of Walter Richter and with the minimum rank of a Feldwebel?

Most probably searching for a needle in a haystack, but always worth the research.

Cordial greetings and thank you in advance,

Hello,

Thank you both fine gentlemen for the info.

@ Matti : that is a interesting trace, anything more known on the missions these crews did fly? etc ...

As far as i did read the KG 2 was involved in attacks against ENgland at the time this crew went missing. So most probably crahsed into the sea ta some point.

Any idea where i could find more info on this unit and the crew?

@ lilsis : thank you for the hint into the KG 53 direction, however he is not the person of my research. that person is named Walther Richter (note the H in the name), my research object is named Walter Richter.

Cordial greetings,

I have been watching this with interest having done a similar thing with my Pokal. I was lucky-my man did not have a common name like yours. I would warn you not to jump to any conclusions. Balke's book does not make mention of your Richter getting the Pokal but an Uffz Richter of 6/KG 2 getting it on 8 Mar 41 (no christian name). Rulffs was with 9/KG 2 and got his 30 Jul 41 and 30 Mar 42 respectively. He does not mention a Schulz getting it but does mention a Schulz of 9/KG 2 getting it 30 Jul 41 (and then Fw Theodor Schulz got the DKiG 9 Jun 42 with 5/KG 2-a match). Your best bet is the personal records of this KG 2 Schulz from BA/MA (WASt?) and I wish you luck!
