P-38: disc brakes vs drum brakes

hello

a few years ago a wheel was salvaged from a lake. it turned out to be a 'typical' american ww2 airplane wheel, the size of a B-24 front wheel or P-38 main wheels. Reportedly 2 identical wheels were recovered - although I only saw one. This would suggest that it's not from a B-24 (that would only have one wheel that size) but a P-38, or for instance an A-26 that has 2 of those same sized wheels.

The problem however was that the specific type of wheel was equipped with drum brakes, whereas the P-38 was equipped with disc brakes. Could it be however that both types of wheels could be fitted to P-38s?

Also an F-5 Lightning reportedly crashed in the area. I argued that perhaps, as a subvariant of the P-38, F-5s were equipped with wheels with drum brakes instead? What would you say? Any thoughts on the matter are greatly appreciated.
