Flt Lt T Rowland, 43 Squadron
Hi,
On 7th June 1940 Flt Lt T Rowland, B Flight commander was shot down in Hurricane L2116 over France. He was able to bale out but was injured. Does anyone know if he made it back to the UK and did he return to 43 Squadron? Regards, Alex |
Re: Flt Lt T Rowland, 43 Squadron
He doesn't appear on the BoB roster, and I can't find any LG references to him for 1939/1940.
However, he doesn't appear on the POW roster on rafcommands either. |
Re: Flt Lt T Rowland, 43 Squadron
Hi
according to Norman Frank's book on F.R.Carey, Rowland returned to 43 sq as B flight commander but due to his injuries was replaced by Tom Dalton-Morgan ( pp 57) but Jim Beedle's book on 43 Sq just states that Rowland was in no 4 base hospital in France and makes no mention of his return to 43 Sq. cheers Bruce Lander |

Hi Amrit, Bruce,
Thanks for your replies. I know there has been another book written on 43 Squadron. I wonder if it has any further details? Alex |

Hi Alex,
The book is No.43 "Fighting Cocks" Squadron by Saunders. F/L Rowland c/l in France. He did not return to opeartional flying with No.43 Sqn, instead later becoming a Fighter Controller. Regards, Michal |
