Captured Lancasters
I seem to remember that the Luftwaffe captured two Lancasters, one which force landed on the Isle of Sark in the Jersey Islands in late 1942 and another one from 103 Sq in early 1944.The later one was flown by Hans-Wener Lerche and is described in his book.

Geoff Thomas's KG 200 book doesn't list any Lancasters in either the unit's strength returns or his appendix of aircraft known to have served with the Geschwader. |

I./KG 200 operated a variety of German types, a few B-17s, even fewer B-24s and a few French flying boats. After the final reorganisation of November 1944: II./KG 200 flew Misteln; III./KG 200 was I./SG 5 renamed, flying Fw 190 Fs; IV./KG 200 was the operational training element of the Geschwader. |

Re: Captured Lancasters
Hi,
Thanks to all. I have never seen ANY picture of the Lancaster in LW markings. There is a good narrative by Hans-Werner Lerche in his book and there is a short paragraph about the lost 103 SQ Lancaster in two part article in Flypast about ten years ago. I don't think the first captured Lancaster lasted long for some reason since there is only scant mention of it in LW records Another LW mystery... |
