Re: Fw200 Great-britain
hi,well as i live in uk,and battle britain, fan, fw 200 were used to some small part, ie, atlantic shipin strikes, off ireland, and also in 1940 august a very small part of fw200s made bombin on liverpool and northern ireland and ,north sea routes,a bit,,,,,,,,,
but this was as heinkel 111 do17s ju88s were been lost in vast amounts ,also, as fw200 were long range it helped heinkel ju88 do17s could not fly lets say scotland,,but fw200 could but the fw200 drawbacks well height and its very weak armor,as they were not used on liverpool in hugh amounts, but by 1941 42, well no luftwaffe bomber was invinible,as our night fighters were been made ready and doin grand work, beufighters and some hurricanes, too,and by 42 the mosquito, was the feared plane,. by 1941 may ,bombing britain was second best ,ie russia june 22 41, so fw 200 were only helpin u boats u boots, and shipin strikes off ireland then again they were been shot down by hurricats, a sea hurricane lauched off a catapult, on merchant ships,.so fw200s were not very good, most were used in russia as transports and amberlances, __________________________________ .how july 24th 40" and not 23 7 40 but again books can be errors" the fw 200 loss was kg 40 ditched off ireland fuel shortages ,all but 2 were rescured,,,see battle of britain then and now be warned its very masssive book and very expencive too gary im no exspert note,................................... |
Re: Fw200 Great-britain
Well I made some research, nd Fw200 hs been already used in combat in Norway, the english made some prisoners, but did'nt seem at that aware of the use of the plane nor the existence of the KG40
On 13. july GQM reports 19.june english report, a FW200 was shot down, but one more time they seems not aware of the plane, the crew stated He111, but they doubted...mission mine-laying crash between Hartlepool nd Sunderland, the Sunderland of the Rover factory ??, at see On 23/24 th night at 20 km NE Belfast a new one came down, so not far from the cost..crew gave as plane type He111k, .... rémi |
Re: Fw200 Great-britain
I believe that 5 FW 200s were lost during the Norwegian campaign. 20 Jul 40, Hptm Roman Steszyn's F8+EH was shot down by AA fire during a mine laying sortie between Hartlepool & Sunderland with 4 crew killed, 2 POW. On 24 Jul, Hptm Volkmar Zenker's Condor suffered engine failure mine-laying over Belfast Lough with 3 POW and 2 +

Re: Fw200 Great-britain
Based on ADIk 99/93, we could just trace 3 losses all with 1.KG40
22/04 6 MIA 29/05 6 MIA 3/06 1 wounded "Erdbeschuss" no damaged plane GQM returns give, 22/04 or 24/04 KGzbv107 Staaken FW200 Flügelbruch crashed Oblt Henke +3 dead 22//04 I.KG40 Norway 5 MIA 2 of them prisoners , Oblt Beckhaus stfw Klamm, ofw Klüger, fw Schönthaler, uffz Cloots 25/05 I.KG40 Narvik Crash air-combat 100 % 1 Dead 2 MIA 28/05 I.KG40 Gardemoen Crashlanding 30 % 29/05 1.KG40 Tromsoe X cause 100% 5 MIA What's more, to note that usual crew for Fw200 is 6 later even 7, but all losses returns , brit or german, give always 5 members crew max. Re: Fw200 Great-britain
For the record. The Fw 200 over England where not suposed to be there and where ordered to be out of range of fighters. They operated under the order of Fliegerfuhrer Atlantik, in service of U-Boat operation, finding convoys etc, communicating with U-Boats. For this the KG 40 and 3(F)123 where station at Sola, Norway from mars 1941 to 1944. In losses over Iceland all 7 aircraft down from different staffeln F8+GM, FR, BB,EK,KL,FK,CK,FL to name all the 7. To wander in over England was a sure death sertificate. It was the 4U+ aircraft of 3F. 123 that where suposed to nose in over England, Scotland and Ireland.
