Code 4E+KB
Hi all
Trying to ascertain wherther the following code 4E+KB belongs to Stab/Aufklärungsgruppe 1 or Stab 12./Aufklärungsgruppe (H) 13. This was during April 1942 Once ascertained, where was this 4E+ group operating - Mid/southern Russia? Finally, anyone got any more information on a acceptance pilot called Einflg. Bischof - probably based at Focke Wulf Bremen. This will help tie up a few leads if anyone can help. regards MS |
Re: Code 4E+KB
Hi, Mark...
'4E' was the code of Aufklärungsgruppe 13. In Barry Rosch's Luftwaffe Codes, Markings and Units 1939-1945, there are several photos of aircraft with this code attributed to that unit. I was initially confused with your reference to Aufkl. Gr 1, as I don't recall there being such a unit, but maybe I will be corrected on that one. I would read the 4E+KB code as Stab/Aufkl.Gr 13. The above-mentioned book usually gives Gruppe/Staffel letters if there are any anomalies to the usual coding structure, but not in this case. 12.Staffel (H)/Aufkl.Gr 13 was apparently termed as a Nachtstaffel. Rosch's book states that this may have had the coding '2Q', with an unknown staffel letter. Most of the references to the photos and drawings show machines in the 1942-43 period and they are all captioned as being in Russia... one more specifically in Volchansk, Kharkov area. Lastly my apologies, because I have no information on Einflg. Bischof. Regards |
