Re: Heinkel 111 loss 21.9.40 5/KG4
Good morning Peter, yes it is there! dont know how i missed it, although it never occured to me to look under KG40 losses, instead.
Many thanks for the clarification. Best regs, Steve. Peter i have another anomaly! Do you have anything for the same Gruppe this being 5J+SM W.Nr 1543 lost on 6.9.40 He111P-2 , I have this being reported as a " total loss. " Sorry no crew details or location, sadly no source noted either! |

Re: Heinkel 111 loss 21.9.40 5/KG4
Excellent information David, can you confirm the date and Staffel ?
Anything on crew names. Best regs, Steve. |
Re: Heinkel 111 loss 21.9.40 5/KG4
Steve,
Little to add to what David has said, other than the name of the pilot who was killed, Uffz Helmut MARTIN, of 6./KG4. His loss occurred at 23.30 hours (German time) over the Dammscher See near Stettin. I can also confirm the date was September 6, 1940. |
Re: Heinkel 111 loss 21.9.40 5/KG4

Re: Heinkel 111 loss 21.9.40 5/KG4
Good evening David,
Many thanks for the clarification of He111P-2 W.Nr 1543 5J+SM. It would appear that Uffz Helmut Martin and crew of 6/KG4 may have borrowed this 4/KG4 a/c, or indeed it was possibly transfered to the 6 Staffel and not had its code changed? Its interesting to note that other a/c within the 14,15,16 hundred block of Werknummers , were lost during the the Polish Campaign 9.39 by KG4 and one wonders if this was a veteran from this earlier battle! Best regs, Steve. |
