Non-Vented Canopy on the Me109
I am curious...
I have a front canopy section from a 109G. The interesting thing, is that rather than the signal flare port on the right, it is a vent. And rather than a vent on the left it is covered... So... Left side no vent Right side no signal flare, BUT vent instead As far as I knew, any "non-vented" 109's on the left were pressurized (G1, G3, G5, etc.). Plus I have never seen a G with a vent on the right as opposed to a flare holder... Thoughts on what this means? mike |
Re: Non-Vented Canopy on the Me109
As a quicky thought on this, I would opine that perhaps the pressurization was either not installed on this a/c, or was removed, and at some point the pilot decided that he wanted a vent for the cockpit. And since there was already a hole in the skin of the a/c at the location of the flare gun, that's the hole they used for the vent.

Hi,
yeah, those were mu thoughts too...the problem is that I have 3 different werk tags in the lot...G-14, G-2 and F. 100% not F, so maybe it was a G-14...?? Mike |
