Hermann Segatz?

Hello I'm new here-- first post and all. I'm sure you see a lot of these!

I've done a lot of searching, and can't seem to find much information Hermann Segatz, and I'm interested in finding out some information from you guys. You obviously know what you're talking about!!

I've pieced together a very crude, hole-filled time line from the limited (internet) research that I've been able to do since I don't have access to much else:

--July 7th, 1940 –Ltn. 5 Gruppe/ Jagdgeschwader 51
1st Kill, Spitfire - SW of Dover
(insert 12 more abschuss that get me to 13th July 1941)
--then--

--1942 III/Jg. 5

--February 1943- March 8th, 1943 (KiA)
Gruppenkommandeur II Gruppe/ Jagdgeschwader I

Any way any of you can fill in the massive holes?

TIA!!

Justin

Hermann Segatz

Hello Justin

Leutnant Segatz began his career with JG 26, although by the Battle of Britain he was serving with 5./JG 51. By July 1941 he had claimed 13 victories with JG 51, including five during the Battle of Britain. My information is that he then served with 11./JG 1 which was redesignated 8./JG 5 on 10 March 1942. Oberleutnant Segatz was awarded the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold on 25 September 1942. He served as Staffelkapitän of 8./JG 5 until September 1943. Hauptmann Segatz was appointed Gruppenkommandeur of II./JG 1 on 4 February 1944. He had 33 victories at the time. He had 40 victories at the time he was killed in action on 8 March 1944. Some sources claim that he was shot down by Lt Jim Dye of the 355th FS, 4th FG, USAAF but I have no idea how accurate this information is. As you can see, I do not have much more than you! Still, though, I hope to have helped somewhat.

Horrido!

Leo

Re: Hermann Segatz

Leo,

Thanks for the reply. As I've searched more, I found, as you stated, that he was posted as MiA on 8.3.44, instead of 8.3.43. Bad sources!! I was almost starting to wonder if there were TWO Segatz floating around out there! Everything else that you say is exactly as I've found, though I didn't find the date where he was awarded the Deutsches Kreuz --thanks for that.

Where are you getting your information? I'd love to read some more on this fellow!

Thanks again, Leo.
