Luftwaffe's missions on Jan. 21st, 1944
Gentlemen,
Just asked about 15th USAAF mission's on that day. Got some detailed answers. Unfortunatly I haven't found anything about their opposers - the German Luftwaffe. Any information available? Thanks for any help! Kurtl |

Hi,
In the series of studies found here: http://www.au.af.mil/au/afhra/number...s/studies4.asp Study 159 you'll find the KTB for the first quarter of 1944, there may be some info of interest. bregds SES www.gyges.dk |
Re: Luftwaffe's missions on Jan. 21st, 1944
Study 159 translates the KTB of the I Fighter Korps, which opposed the Allied attacks from Britain. So, it has nothing on any 15th Air Force attack on 21 Jan 44. It jumps from the USAAF attacks on 11 Jan 44 to its attacks on 24 Jan 44. Sorry.

I am reffering to Kurtls question of Allied part of this forum..there e asked for 21.1.1945...that is why I mentioned it...maybe to correct the mistake and make things clearer...
And I see it more probable that he asked about 1945, as 15USAAF had no action on that day in 1944...as has been mentioned... |

Hello friends,
Yes, Peter (bioterror) is right. It was my fault, I meant 1945. I believe that the Luftwaffe didn't engaged much aircraft on that day. At least not against 15th USAAF. Kurtl |
Re: Luftwaffe's missions on Jan. 21st, 1944
Gentlemen:
I am not sure exactly what is meant by the statement that the 15th AF was not in action on 21 Jan 1944 as my group, the 325th FG, flew two fighter sweeps on that day. The one against Florence resulted in claims of 4 FW-190s. The other fighter sweep against Rome had no encounters. Perhaps the original intent was for action over Germany? Our missions were obviously in Italy when we were flying the P-47s, but the 15th AF was in action that day. I also do not know about any German response on the 21st of Jan 1945 as we did not encounter any opposition on that mission, and I have already posted that mission information. However, I can assure you that on the 20th of January 1945, I/JG301, II/JG301, and at least one pilot from I/JG302 were up in strength. Another source told me that JG302 merged with JG301 on this day. This same source also told me that in 1945, the record keeping of the Luftwaffe was substandard which is of course understandable.
