A very similar picture in Prien's Die Jagdfliegerverbände....Teil 3, page 17, of this Messerschmitt. Here captioned as an E-3 from 4./JG 771 which made an emergency landing 23 April 1940 after experiencing engine problems when taking off from Trondheim Vaernes airport. Flown by Lt. Georg Schirmböck who survived without serious injury. Another picture of what I believe is the very same aircraft was sold last year on ebay. This time in pristine condition showing the port side and the wing camouflage - also taken at Trondheim Vaernes. |

Another photo of this 109 was sold at ebay earlier, in a condition showing the cowling in place. See attachment. I believe the handwriting on the back indicates a location for the hard landing but I can not figure it out despite the fact that I read German. Not reading well enough perhaps.... The very same picture now sold at ebay figures in Prien's Jagdfliegerverbände.....Teil 3, page 376. Another picture at P.377 Captioned as a Bf 109 E-1 of 2./JG 76 during the campaign in the West May/June 1940. |

Seen it before - Also at ebay I believe. I have the very same photo in several books and mags, earliest from Profile Publications Number 94 from 1966. Other photos of this aircraft have also been published over the years. W.Nr 601 444 I believe....... |
